Canada Day recognizes the unity of this nation of diverse backgrounds and is an opportunity to reflect on our relationships with one another. Today we want to take our celebrations one step further, acknowledging the power that community support has had on small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the wake of the pandemic, lots of local small businesses took a heavy blow. Many have had to close their doors permanently, while others are struggling to stay afloat. One such brand is The Retro Bag Canada – an emerging business in London Ontario that reimagines classic accessories into timeless and stunning new fashions. The Retro Bag was first launched online in 2019 by Adesola Ogunsakin, but when faced with the pandemic not long after, she did not give up on her business; instead, she would remain dedicated to her products and customers.
Customers felt drawn to The Retro Bag Canada’s story of resilience and grit. The follow-through attitude and the determination to be successful despite the odds! After completing her Medical Degree, Adesola decided to tap into her entrepreneurial side and venture into the business of bags. While this has been a rewarding journey, it has also come with its fair bit of challenges.
As the pandemic came to a close in fall of 2022, The Retro Bag opened its first retail location at Cadillac Fairview (CF) Masonville Place in London, ON. This was a huge milestone for the company, and since then, The Retro Bag has continued to grow and bring more fashionable bags to her customers. All of this could not have been achieved without the love and support of her local community, and from Canadians across the country.
